With a few words you can turn someone mean and grumpy into someone happy
Only because you say more - doesn't mean, that people will remember
I'm more than just impressed with the speech was given by Aaron Beverly. He reminded me of my school years when I tried to be noticed, I wanted people to see me and that's why I always gave my two cents in each small talk I entered. No need to say - people were not quite satisfied with my behavior and no one had told me that it was not matter how many words you say, it counts how valuable you make them.
If I were a judge at the contest I would have given Aaron the first prize without thinking a minute and I will try to explain why.
Speech content
Aaron made his speech clear enough to follow, he started with the great simbiosis: introduction and an example which directs you to the main part, there was logical connection between subjects in his speech like statement - proof/example - statement which in the end followd into a conclusion. After each topic of his speech he provided a valuable example, like the one about the "bus lady of Doom" after his words of how much we can do by only saying something sweet to a person who we don't even know. Aaron was fluent and swiftly changed one topic of his speech into another and it didn't cause a mess.
Speech delivery
Aaron Beverly masterly switches from low speech speed emphasising each important word to thunderbolt speed yet making emphasis. He attracts your attention not only with voice colouring, but also with gesturing and facial impressions. When he tells you a story which made him laugh - he laughs, when he says he felt heartbroken - you can definately see it in his eyes and you feel the same.
General effectiveness
I'm not sure how much time was give to the contestant for the speech, but I'm pretty sure that these people are professionals and they are able to fit in the time though sometimes even professional make mistakes.
But for me personally it was not too long, I didn't get tired of listening to him and I had a lot of information out of his speech for only 8 minutes, what is the greatest example of his words I think - you need to make even two words you say count, and you'll be surprise for how long people will remember them.
