Speech In Colour

Stress can be useful Attention-getter Link Thesis Preview Have you ever been in a situation when you fell that all the problems of the whole world have fallen on your shoulders? When you feel, like if you even could stop the time it wouldn’t be enough to fit in deadlines with all the tasks you’ve put aside? And as soon as you can’t stop the time all the tasks you have to complete become twice harder and you find yourself crying in absolute frustration? That what is called stress. The more we grow the more we face it and it becomes our habit, but it depends on us only what kind of habit it will be: either a good one, which can persuade us to do much more we can imagine, or a bad one, which can seal us down to the bottom. Today I would like to talk about how to make the stress work on us, how to train yourself and to face the most terrifying problems of your life. Persuasive Speech

This was quite an experience, hard and time-taking, but I am open to any comments to make it sound and look better. Hope you'll enjoy it. Rewriting a Speech

This time I'll try to rewrite a speech by Denis in order to make sound and look better. Why You Should Exercise Hello! Have you found yourself in a situation when you have to prepare lots of different tasks during a day or a night? I suppose that's not the best feeling to anyone, but there is a way out how to not get stuck in this kind of a situation - exercise regulary.  I believe exercise really helps you get organized improves your mood . It also helps you to keep yourself in a healthy physically and mentally. Let’s see why it is so. 1. To beging with, let's discuss the main problem of our effieciency - the laziness.  When you are a lazy person, it is difficult to take the first step, but it is all a matter of committing yourself to something that will provide you a lot of positive feedback. Once you start doing exercise and observing positive results, you actually enjoy it. It takes a lot of effort and strong will, but it's worth it.  2. The next ste...

Challenge #4

This time I was curious about sharing my thoughts and ideas with a new group of people I work with. It was 8th challenge, but anyway.  We were discussing how should we prepare for upcoming winter holidays and I was not only listening to people, but also brought my thoughts. As a result they decided to try and to use my offers and took my opinion into account.

Writing a conclusion

As the second task I had to write a conclusion for the following text. How to Communicate Effectively      Establishing and developing effective communication is important in order to be heard and change your environment according to your own thoughts. No one will guess what you want or what you think if you don’t tell them, and nothing is going to change if you do not propose a change. The purpose of my speech is to discuss three important skills that will help you communicate effectively. Such skills are not to be afraid of speaking, express exactly what you mean to say, and listen while you are not speaking.      The first aspect to communicate effectively is not to be afraid of speaking. Anytime you need to say something, go ahead and do it. Most of the times people are afraid of speaking because they are not sure if it is the right thing to say or the right moment to say it. Be sure, say what you want to say, and do not regret it. If you speak ...

The Speech Outline

As soon as the speech does not end with the introduction there is the body and the counclusion ahead for us to talk about. Let's continue with the body, the main part of the speech, full of content and ideas. I've chosen speech 3 to analyse https://www.ted.com/talks/ramsey_musallam_3_rules_to_spark_learning?referrer=playlist-tv_special_ted_talks_educatio 1.It all starts with the introduction and the attention-getter. A. Have you ever found yourself at the restaurant spacing out just doing this? (asking a question)  B. Telling a story about the expirement he had and about the student who sent him a video of her own expirement.  Questions and curiosity like Mandy's are magnets. (a link)  We can provoke real questions and through them boost both children and ourselves. (a link) The student's questions are the seeds of real learning (I think this is a thesis) 1.The story of how surgeon calmed down him before the operation. A. His curiosity and hard quest...

Making an introduction

Изображение
We are about to start creating our speeches and it's logical, that we start with nothing else but introduction. Lots of people know that right introduction can invole the audience to what you talk about or can make them understand that there is nothing to listen to, so that's why there are some ways out to make your introduction valuable and interesting: Asking questions Making references  Making a startling statement Giving a quotation Telling a story Now, let's see what techinques people use the following videos: “How will we survive when the population hits 10 billion?” by Charles C. Mann  at TED2018  https://www.ted.com/talks/charles_c_mann_how_will_we_survive_when_the_population_hits_10_billion  Here the speaker starts with a question and then gives his comment to it, slightly moving to his main point. Topic for the persuasive speech

Изображение
During this course we have to perfom 2 speeches, one of which is persuasive. To begin with I'd like to share the general statement and some objecteves. General statement: Stress is useful. Objecteves:  to talk about what stress is and how often do we face it to find positive and negative sides of the stress to tell why stress can be helpful and useful

Challenge #3

This time I decided to step over my fear of marshrutka-bus drivers and to ask for a stop for no reason. Actually, drivers are not the friendliest people in the world, so it's quite terrifying. It was not easy at all, I would say. It was morning, when everyone is smiling and happy to see you. Of course, not. People were angry and unfriendly, so was the driver. It's quite a distance between the town I live in and university, that's why marshrutka-bus sets off only when it's completely full and stops only at those places where people need. And that was my moment of glory, when I asked for a stop at the place where nobody ever drops off. Bus had stopped and I kept silence. After a while people and the driver asked me is everything fine or not and I answered that I asked for a wrong stop. Remarkable, that everything was fine. People did not look at me as if I were an enemy, driver asked where I need to stop and said, that he will remind me about it. Strange, but true....

Creative Writing Time!

I suppose everyone had an experience of being lost before starting to write a speech: all your bright ideas fade away, you find yourself an excuse to do it later and so on. And now there is a way out, some tips to make your brain work a get yourself prepared: One letter First of all we need to think about 10 words which start from the same letter. Let this letter be ''b''. So the words are: bycicle, beans, bright, bargain, beautiful, book, balloon, beaf, breakfast, basket, Random words This task is about making random words a unit, like creating a story with absolutely random words. The website https://www.textfixer.com/tools/random-words.php   will help me to create these words. I've been to the jungle and I saw an animal, apparently it was an iguana,  which is a good murderer because I could see a lot of preys. Fortunately, I was smart enough not to come close to it, and I put a grid to catch it.  Creative writing prompts ...

Challenge #2

Life is something truly unpredictable. I was going to complete my second challenge, to talk to a quietest person in the university, but you can never know what life has prepared for you. So I accidentally have completed my #10 challenge and I have mixed emotions. Challenge was to tell a person I care about how much I actually care and I was absolutely unprepared for that talk. This person and I were alone outside and the words just broke out of my mouth. I kept silence afterwards for a couple of seconds and then we continued our commincation. I still feel quite ashamed that I literally shouted at person I care how much I care. I hope everything will be fine, but except that feeling I know feel free. Like something very heavy has fallen down from my shoulders. At least I was brave enough to do it, yet I'm afraid I spoiled everything. Next time I need to do something easy as a challenge I suppose.

-Are you a hero now? - Not even close!

Some people can impress just in several minutes using just several words.  I've watched 3 absolutely different speeches but all of them have truly touched my soul.  Ken Robinson is a very smart man. He's got the knowledge, he's got sense of humor and magnificent life experience I would say.  I think he's put several objectives before his speech. Of course he wanted to be straight in time, he told about it several times.  He definately wanted to change people's opinion on the topic he was talking about. He tried to make people see and understand, that there is a talent in everyone but the problem is that some people cannot find it inside their head and also, that other people do not try to help them with the searching.  He also paid a lot of attention to the examples during his speech: each example was according to the certain point and was logical, it was easy to follow.  Matthew McConaughey is a man who has brought a great thought to my mind aft...

Why should I make my speech?

Everybody understands how important is to set certain objectives and to be sure in what you say. Of course, you have to be prepared, and it's not only about making speech, but also about preparing yourself psychologically, that's why we should ask ourselves some questions:  - Why should I want to talk about this? - Why should anybody want to listen to me? - What need in the audience do I want to have satisfied when I have finished speaking? - When they all walk away what state would I like them to leave in? Let's look at the examples and answer the questions.  1. If I were a school teacher and had to give a speech about childrens' behaviour I think I would answer "because once I'll have my own children'' to the first question. I am sure that it's essential to make children understand, that parents will not advise bad things and if they listen to them they will succeed in lots of things.  The second question is an easy one: people should lis...

Your body is both your friend and an enemy

I remember myself feeling awkward because I had stage fright symptoms but never talked to anyone about them. Now I feel awkward because I know about them, but I have them all.  I remember as it was yesterday how I had to give a speech during the university contests in my first year and how nervous I was. I came into the classroom full of confidence in my abilities, but one step forward of the main judge and all my confidence collapsed. My breathing became so loud as if I had a plane in my lungs which is about to be off the ground. I couldn't feel the pen with my fingers because they were cold like the temperature was below zero and at the same time I've been sweating as if I had run 5 km marathon. I couldn't sit on my chair because I wanted to move, to do something, but as soon as I came on the stage - everything vanished. I wanted to lay down and nothing more, all my energy left my body and I was alone, what's worse - I was alone and sweaty.  Anyway it turned out q...

Challenges

You never know what is waiting for you just in a second ahead so it's easy to understand the fear of it. You don't know what is going to happen to you.  Once Antoine de Saint-Exupery said: ''Only the unknown frightens men. But once a man has faced the unknown, that terror becomes the known'' I am sure that this describes everything in our life, and even the course task helps us to be prepared for everything. You would never do anything from the list I mention below in everyday life, but when it is nessessary to do you will not hesitate.  It's like watching a horrow movie: when you sit in front of the screen for the first time you're shivering, but the next time you watch it you will be laghing about what had scared you the last time. So, my list of challenges is: 1) on Monday morning say "Good morning lady, how are you? " to a woman who sells the tickets on the train station 2) to start a dialogue with the quitest person ...

With a few words you can turn someone mean and grumpy into someone happy

Only because you say more - doesn't mean, that people will remember I'm more than just impressed with the speech was given by Aaron Beverly. He reminded me of my school years when I tried to be noticed, I wanted people to see me and that's why I always gave my two cents in each small talk I entered. No need to say - people were not quite satisfied with my behavior and no one had told me that it was not matter how many words you say, it counts how valuable you make them. If I were a judge at the contest I would have given Aaron the first prize without thinking a minute and I will try to explain why. Speech content Aaron made his speech clear enough to follow, he started with the great simbiosis: introduction and an example which directs you to the main part, there was logical connection between subjects in his speech like statement - proof/example - statement which in the end followd into a conclusion. After each topic of his speech he provided a valuable exam...

Questionnaire "Your level of oratoratory" I have fianally done the questionnaire and ready to announce that I've got the result of 62 points. I'm not sure if I've done everything correct but I'm happy with the result in any case.  I hope to increase those things I already have and to gain new experience, beasuse there is even more I don't know yet.

Confidence? Confidence... Confidence!

I would have been lying if I started this post with words ''I don't like to give a speech''. Or if I have said that I am never nervous before, during and after it. Actually I love talking. If you ask anyone who knows me about some facts connected to me - a half of these people will definately say that I never keep silence. That's true, I can talk a lot, about everything and I find it entertaining, But there is a BIG problem so far - I can talk a lot, I can tell you so much - and say nothing at all. The thing is that I lack informative parts in my speech. Thank Gods, I understand this and I am trying to change this already. It's not hard to me to give a speech, but it's really hard to make myself prepared to it. It always goes the same way: - I have a task to do - I tell myself: "I'll start preparing today" - I'm in a rush of preparation behind the scenes All I understand for now is that confidence isn't built up with only ...

"You have to sell an exersise"

Изображение
Mistakes are obvious, we work on them. During today's class we talked a lot about the previous, actually the first, experience of public speaking. Everybody had different opinion on their speech and shared, so we discussed a lot of things which we can improve already before the next task: to provide an eye-contact to control your movements during the speech  to stick to the time limit All these things are problems which I'll try to solve till the next speech, which is actually something odd for me. Professor said, that we have to sell our groupmates an exersise connected to english language. ''I would't buy a thing'' - was the first my thought after giving the task, but after a while I caught myself on the feeling that I would definately buy all of them because it's a wonderful experience. What will it be? We are just about to find it out.

The Rules

Netiquette As any society group our ''net group'' has created some rules of netiquete which everyone swore to follow: be polite help each other and everyone if you can be active and leave comments under your groupmates posts, share your opinion respect people's privacy respect other people's time be forgiving of others' mistakes We all hope these rules make our net-life easier and nicer, so we'll soon see how it works.

The First Speech or What's Going On?

No silence, no russian anymore   The speech was given after a long time of "silence" and not using english language but I am happy to finally speak again. What I like about my speech is the fluency of it, speech tempo and that it's more or less grammatically correct. Moreover, I like that my speech was almost without pauses and except only one moment I always knew what I need to talk about. Things I don't like is that nervous walking here and there, I couldn't find the place for my arm and it's well-seen that I feel uncomfortable.    What is it all about? As soon as this is our 3rd year of studying we continue improving our speaking skills and that's what we're going to do during the oratory course. Let's make the result well-seen as soon as possibl e.
